NSE

Stock Market News: Nifty50 and Sensex Indian stock markets will remain closed on February 26, 2025, due to Maha Shivratri for commercial purposes. The festival occurs once a year, generally during February or March, wherein the Hindus celebrate it in honor of their god Shiva. As per the date in the Hindu calendar, the festival falls on the 14th tithi of its first fortnight in the lunar month Phalguna.

Highlights of Previous Session

Long the benchmark indices NSE Nifty50 and BSE Sensex have seen declines of 1 to 2% from the Friday close as of Monday, February 24, 2014. The Nifty50 fell 242.55 points (1.06 percent) to settle at 22,553.35, while the Sensex bled 856.65 points (1.14 percent) to finally close at 74,454.41.

Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100—the indices are based on scoring a loss of 1.02% and 0.94%, respectively, thus darkening from these benchmark figures on the larger market scenario. Defiance was common: Nifty Pharmaceuticals slipped down by 2.17% whereas that of Nifty IT came down steeply by 2.71%.

Holiday Schedule for the 2025 Holiday in the NSE will accredit fourteen holidays in the stock market for the year 2025. The 2nd March Monday will fall into the Eid-u-Fitr holiday pattern in the month of March, having Holi as a public holiday on the 14th of March, which is also a Friday. Again, the month of April would have so many public holidays, such as Good Friday in April 18, Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, and Mahavir Jayanti on April 10.

Thus, the 18th of April has Good Friday. The first half of the year for the stock market shall be completed by the holiday of Maharashtra Day on the 1st of May. Holidaywise, we have in August Ganesh Chaturti on 27 August (Wednesday) and another holiday on 15 August (Friday) for Independence Day.
