Following Senate confirmation, Donald Trump supporter Kash Patel became the first director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to be of Indian descent on Thursday. Kash Patel thanked the Senate for its support and pledged to restructure the agency to become “transparent, accountable, and committed to justice.”
Kash Patel pledged to transform the FBI into an institution in which the American people could take pride.
Together with our partners and the hardworking men and women of the Bureau, we will rebuild an FBI of which the American people can be proud. And take this as a warning to anyone who would do harm to Americans. We’re going to find you everywhere on Earth. First mission. America Always. We should start working,” Kash Patel remarked.

Kash Patel’s affirmation was only partially accepted.
The rest of the Republican Party, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had previously blocked other Trump nominations, backed Kash Patel in spite of resistance from Republican Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.
All Senate Democrats voted against him, and his confirmation as the new FBI director was only just accepted by a 51-49 majority.
Democrats also criticized Patel for propagating conspiracy theories, defending pro-Trump rioters who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, and promising to expose members of a purported “deep state” that was planning to overthrow the Republican president. In the past, he has also called journalists traitors and threatened to prosecute some reporters.
He expressed gratitude to Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi and stated his commitment to rebuilding public confidence in the FBI.
“I am honored to be confirmed as the ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” Patel wrote on X. We appreciate President Trump’s and Attorney General’s steadfast trust and assistance.
“The FBI has a storied legacy—from the “G-men” to protecting our country after 9/11,” he continued. The American people are entitled to an FBI that is open, responsible, and dedicated to upholding the law. Public trust has been damaged by the politicalization of our legal system, but that is going to stop today.
